2019 and other numbers

We’re heading straight into the roaring twenties. Time to take a look back at the past year, and since my life in fully quantified, I’m just gonna list some numbers. đŸƒâ€â™€ïž 550 km: The distance I ran this year. I spent 79h 35m running this year over 115 runs. I only started running in 2018, so 2019 was my first ‘full’ year of running. I’m pretty happy with this development and I feel that running is great for my body and my mind. đŸšČ 2,084.4 km: The distance I spent riding my bicycle. I spent 150h 20m on my bike […]

Frequently Asked Questions about changing my first name

Why do you want to be called [new name]? It’s my second name and my now preferred name. I’ve been using it abroad for many years (since my first name is unpronounceable for many non-Germans), and the longer I used it, the more it became my preferred name. Since I have hated my first name all my life, I’ve now reached a point where I would like to get rid of it and be addressed by my second name. Why do you hate your first name (old name)? I have hated my first name ever since I became consciously aware […]

Personal Achievements of Awesomeness in 2017

2017 is over, and it was one of the most eventful and life-changing years I have lived through. A ton of things happened, all of which took my life into positive new directions. I received the result of my master’s thesis and graduated as “Master of Arts” with an excellent grade. The supervisor of my master’s thesis asked me whether I want to do a PhD, which is an amazing accomplishment and a show of confidence and trust in me. I said yes, and I started working on my PhD project in April. I ended an 8-year relationship. I started […]

Twenty Sixteen and Me (and Games)

The year is almost over, meaning that it’s time for my traditional “what I did this year” post. The year of 2016 is universally hated, in my opinion wrongfully – it’s not the fault of a slightly arbitrary measurement of the earth’s rotation that so many bad things have happened. Many inspirational people have died, but many more will likely die in the next couple of years. Many bad things have happened around the world, but considering that soon one of the most powerful nations in the world will be led by a group of imbeciles, I don’t even want […]

My Little Pony

I went to visit my parent’s house last weekend, and there I learned that my first and oldest pony Flörchen has died. I am surprisingly un-sad about this; I guess I have plenty of distance to most things around that house by now. Nevertheless, I think after roughly 25 years, Flörchen has earned an obituary in form of a blog post. I got Flörchen when I was six years old. I was one of the horse-obsessed kids, and since my parents had plenty of space for all kinds of animals, it was only a matter of time until I demanded […]

Twenty fourteen in tv show stats and other geeky stuff

Every year, I create a “what I did this year” blog post on my blog, meticulously organized by month. But this year I don’t feel like it would enrich my blog. The years are accelerating at an incredible rate. It seems only yesterday that I wrote my 2013 post, and I’m starting to get the feeling that soon my blog will only contain these posts, one every year, since I hardly find the time to blog about other things. Seriously, who still reads/writes a blog…?! 2014 and me The year 2014 was a strange experience. It was the year I […]

I’ve been taking selfies since before it was (un)cool

Eight years, to be precise! On November 11th, 2006, I joined Michael‘s little daily photo project, which since then has flourished into a wonderful community. Some of my best friendships are a result of dailyfratze.de. Participating in this project has become an integral part of my life, one I can no longer imagine living without. And last year, the English language has even gained a word for what I’ve been doing all these years: selfies. I first became aware of this word in Australia, where I thought not much about it, except, “cool, a word for what I’ve been doing […]
