Statistics for the TV show addict

The year is coming to a close. It has been the most life-changing year of my life (I might post more on that on 31 Dec), but some things never really change: at heart, I am still a TV show addict. It remains my favourite format of consuming fiction (sometimes also non-fiction), and this is clearly reflected in not only the following statistics, but also the fact that I’m so much of a nerd, I actually have a database that allows me to create these statistics. I started tracking the movies I watch in 2006 as part of a blog […]

Five years of daily photos

Today I’m celebrating my fifth anniversary in the participation of dailyfratze.de. I have already blogged about my first anniversary, second anniversary and 1000. picture (with video) (and I’m kinda running out of original things to write about it). I’m very proud that I’ve reached this milestone of 5 years without missing a single photo, and I sure hope I’ll be blogging about the 10 year anniversary too. Goodness, how time flies… I can only repeat myself in saying that I love this close-knit community and the idea behind it. It’s been a pleasure to see it evolve over the past […]

Much Ado About David Tennant And Catherine Tate

Back in January, on a boring Sunday while doing the usual nothing on the internet, I got a Twitter pop-up on my screen from David Tennant’s news channel. It had just been announced that David Tennant and Catherine Tate would be performing on stage in a new production of Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing. “Interesting…”, I thought aloud to myself, which alerted my boyfriend who was sitting next to me doing stuff on his own computer. I told him about this discovery, and after about 3 minutes of discussion, we had spontaneously decided that our summer vacation would take place […]

Little Monsters

Two months after having taught myself how to crochet, I have created a monster. Er, actually, a few of them. The two Daleks I knit last year now have company by this fellow Doctor Who “monster”: That is of course an “Adipose” from the 4.01 episode “Partners in Crime”. One of the sillier episodes with one of the silliest monsters, but they are so silly that they’re just cute. The crochet pattern is on ravelry. The body was very easy though mine looks a bit more squashed than the one in the instructions. I also had my trouble with the […]

The Interior Design Of A Spaceship

When I was watching Serenity the other night, I was wondering why spaceships in the movies and on TV always have such a cold and unfriendly interior design. I’m not much of a Sci-Fi geek, but I have been watching an awful lot of Sci-Fi lately. And I keep noticing the same thing: depressingly gray rooms made of metal and concrete, grills in the floors and zero comfort. How exactly does River Tam handle being barefoot in that thing all the time? And why do spaceships hardly ever have wooden floors, or carpets, or tapestries? Though the Serenity, a Firefly, […]

The Wilhelm Whinny

If you’ve ever seen a movie with a horse in it, you’ve probably heard it: the Wilhelm Whinny. I have no idea if there’s a real name for it, but I’m just gonna call it that in allusion to the famous Wilhelm Scream. Similar to the Wilhelm Scream, the Wilhelm Whinny is a sound file that film producers love to use over and over again. That horse neighing in the movie you just watched – probably the Wilhelm Whinny. (Unfortunately all of my movie editing tools don’t work, so I can’t provide you with a clip.) But unlike the enjoyable […]

She saved the world a lot: Buffy the Vampire Slayer

The first time I heard about Buffy Summers must have been some time in 98 or 99, through a TV commercial. In the following 4-5 years, I occasionally watched her and her friends on TV, twice even had my aunt tape me a couple of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel episodes from US TV. But I never really had the chance or the enthusiasm to watch the whole thing from the beginning, as I should have. Plus it was airing so late and full of scary demons, so that I was either too tired or too scared to watch […]

Doomsdaylight: Heroes

Yesterday I finished watching Heroes. It’s been a long journey. Sorry for this geeky post. I started watching this show exactly a week ago, and since then I’ve been consuming it like a zombie with the result that I now feel like someone ate my brain. It sure is a lot to absorb, but at the same time it’s relieving to be at the end of the journey. That’s the impact a simple TV show can have on you ?! This definitely isn’t the easy Friday night entertainment you’d expect it to be. On top of that it’s quite graphic […]
