About

What is this site?

chaosworks.org is a personal hub on the internet, showcasing various things I like to dabble in (e.g. data science or InDesign), as well as a place for me to write down my thoughts, memories, etc. (blog).

I have had personal blogs and websites since around 2002, and chaosworks.org is merely the latest incarnation of these. If you would like to reminisce with me about personal blogs, see my post Delving into the past of this blog.

The domain chaosworks.org has been in my possession since 2005 and lay dormant for 18 years, and finally came of age in the year 2023 when I overhauled my personal internet presence into this website. Why the name chaosworks? Actually my brother came up with it, but I think it’s a very fitting and versatile name – even though I’m probably the least chaotic person I know, making this a rather ironic choice. Instead, I like to think of it in the sense of the word’s origins in Greek mythology, where χάος is the void state preceding the creation of the universe. And these are my works created out of nothingness.

The theme (as of 2023) is based on minimalist blog and has been very heavily modified by me. A selection of previous themes can be viewed in Blog layouts through the ages.

Who writes here?

I am adastra aka Marie, a nerd/geek who loves (video|board|RP) games and science fiction & fantasy. For a by no means comprehensive list of stuff I like, head over to Faves.

I enjoy creating things through making websites, making board game player aids or inserts, painting, knitting, sewing, and general crafting.

I used to be a web developer / media designer, but then I decided to change my career by going back to university and now I am a linguist with a PhD – but I still do a lot of coding (these days mostly in R and Python).

I also love to travel and travel photography, which I’ve been doing since 2005.

If you would like to get in touch with me, you can send me an e-mail info@chaosworks.org or use one of the platforms listed in the “Me, elsewhere” section of the Links page.
